ChatGPT found the dress but you can’t buy it? Get it made

By Nina Karisik, founder of MadeAptPublished 1 November 2026

The short answer

Yes. A dress from a screenshot can be made to your measurements, whether the one ChatGPT found is sold out, from an old collection, or was never a real product. Dresses start from A$160 (US$229), most orders take approximately 4 weeks including shipping, and you see the quote before paying anything. Send the picture, your height, the date you need it by and one line on what must stay the same.

Upload the screenshot, we’ll quote it

It opens in the studio as your reference, a tailor reviews it, and you get a price and an estimated timeline before paying anything.

No payment now. A tailor reviews the image, you get a quote, then you decide. Or describe it in the studio instead.

Why the dress ChatGPT found is sold out, discontinued or doesn’t exist

ChatGPT is good at describing a dress and bad at stocking one. When it “finds” a dress, the result is usually one of three things.

  • An AI render. The picture was generated, by ChatGPT or by whoever posted it. There is no shop because there was never a garment. The image is still a usable reference; it just needs seams, a back and a closure decided by a person.
  • An old collection. The dress was real, sold a season or ten ago, and the listing is dead or only exists on resale in one size. Recreating a discontinued dress covers that case in detail.
  • A region-locked brand. The label exists but doesn’t ship to you, doesn’t carry your size, or prices the dress for a market you’re not in.

In all three cases the answer is the same: the picture becomes the brief, and a tailor makes the dress to your measurements.

How to turn the picture into a real dress

  1. Save the clearest picture you have. A full front view with the hem visible is enough to begin. A back view or a fabric close-up helps. The picture guide covers what makes a good reference and what we need from you besides it.
  2. Upload it, or send it straight to a tailor. Open it in the studio if you want to change the length, colour or straps first; or use the quote button on this page and skip the studio.
  3. Approve the quote, add your measurements, wait about four weeks. A real person replies with a price and an estimated timeline. Measurements come after, with our guide, at home.

What to paste back into ChatGPT

If you still have the chat open, ask ChatGPT to describe the dress in tailor’s terms. Paste the answer into your quote request with the picture and we can price it faster.

Paste into ChatGPT with the picture
Describe this dress for a tailor who will make it to my measurements. In plain words, one line each: silhouette, neckline, sleeves, waist, skirt shape, length, the fabric it looks like (and a close real-world alternative), colour, and how it probably closes (zip, buttons, ties). Then list the two or three details that define the look. No brand names, no marketing language.

Treat the fabric line as a guess, not a fact. Screen colour has been lit and graded, and a render’s “silk” is a texture, not a cloth. The tailor confirms the fabric from real swatches before anything is cut.
