choose your fabric.every madeapt piece starts with it.

We work with a flexible fabric-sourcing model. We carry a core range of reliable base fabrics, but colours, prints, weights and finishes can change depending on what is available near your tailor at the time your piece is made.

This helps us avoid dead stock, source closer to the maker where possible, and give you more choice than a standard clothing brand.

The base range

Our core fabric types.

We commonly work with these six. The swatches are real colours from the studio library.

Wool

A beautiful option for tailored pants, skirts, jackets and structured pieces. Wool can feel polished, long-lasting and elevated, depending on the weight and blend.

Linen

A breathable natural fabric that works well for warm-weather pieces, relaxed tailoring, dresses, tops and sets. Linen has a softer, more lived-in look and may crease naturally.

Cotton

A versatile everyday fabric for shirts, dresses, skirts, pants and casual pieces. Cotton can range from crisp and structured to soft and lightweight.

Scuba Cotton & Structured Stretch

Great for pieces that need more shape, stretch or hold. This can work well for fitted tops, sculptural pieces, structured skirts or garments that need a cleaner silhouette.

Satin

Smooth, fluid and slightly dressier. Satin works well for occasionwear, skirts, dresses, wrap pieces and garments where you want drape and shine.

Silk

A premium natural fabric with beautiful movement and softness. Silk is best for special pieces, elevated tops, dresses and garments where the fabric itself is part of the statement.

First Nations Cotton Homespun

Authentic Aboriginal designs printed on 100% cotton. Every fabric carries the originating artist's name; some return a royalty on every garment cut.

Looking for a specific colour or fabric? Just ask us.

Because our fabrics are sourced at different times and often near the tailor making your piece, we may not show every colour or option on this page. If you are looking for something specific, send us a message and we will check what can be sourced.

How fabric matching works

Describe the look and feel. We do the rest.

When you design a piece, you can either choose from our core fabric categories or describe the look and feel you want. For example:

+I want black tailored pants that feel structured but comfortable.
+I want a soft white cotton top.
+I want a satin dress in a warm blush colour.
+I want linen pants, but not too see-through.
+I want something that feels expensive but easy to wear.

From there, we help match your design to a fabric that makes sense for the garment, your body, the maker and the final use.

Your fabric, your call

The cloth is yours.

Once you've picked a style, the cloth is yours: natural fibres like cotton, linen, and wool, in the weight and colour that suit your wardrobe and your climate.

Not sure what works? Message us and we'll talk you through the options before anything is cut.

Why we do it this way

Fabric sourced around the piece, not the season.

Traditional fashion often overproduces fabric, over-orders stock and locks customers into limited seasonal options. MadeApt works differently. We source fabric around the actual piece being made. That means less waste, more flexibility and more room for personal choice.

You do not need to know the perfect fabric name. You just need to know how you want the piece to feel. We will help with the rest.
