Nyssa's Emu Dreaming Dress Shirt — Australian Cotton Drill, Reimagined
Nyssa's Emu Dreaming Dress Shirt, Australian Cotton Drill, Reimagined Nyssa wanted something that felt authentically connected to Australia after her trip to Melbourne, a piece with colour, story, and a sense of place. She chose the Warlukurlangu Emu Dreaming cotton drill, featuring Yankirri Jukurrpa by Ricardo Jampijinpa Gallagher. The artwork depicts an emu Dreaming connected to Ngarlikurlangu, a place approximately 50km north of Yuendumu, and carries the cultural story of the Nangala/Nampijinpa women and Jangala/Jampijinpa men. Rather than a dress, Nyssa reimagined the fabric into a custom dress shirt: structured, wearable, and made for a life in motion. She travels often and found the piece became her "little something special", bold enough to feel memorable, practical enough to keep wearing. The shirt was custom made for her in Sarajevo by Enisa, which we still get a small kick out of: Nyssa and Enisa, two similar names connected through one garment. A travel piece. A conversation starter. Australian cotton drill, carried across the world.
